This Sunday at Sherlock60: The Speckled Band

Another weekend is here, and it's time to introduce this Sunday's story: The Speckled Band. The now solid partnership of Holmes and Watson is put to the test against a brutal man and his sinister plans for his step-daughter.

We're lucky enough to have a Granada episode this week! I'll be making a special post for Granada discussion separate from the regular discussion post, so keep that in mind on Sunday. You can watch Granada's Speckled Band at YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, and DVD.

Here are your completely optional prompts for SPEC. Feel free to use one, both, or neither.

Optional prompt 1: The villain here is an unusual man. Try his point of view. What are the justifications for his behavior?
Optional prompt 2: Use rhyme in some way, be it just two words or an entire rhyme scheme.

Author's Notes: During the hiatus, Watson muses on the path that's brought him here.

One pill meant life, the other death; so with every passing second. Every choice, every moment raises the spectre of if only.

It might not have been the Criterion that day. If only.

But he taught me this: many choices are false. Given A or B, there may be C; given life or death, there may be another, better way.

A Study in Scarlet: First Impressions

Canon Story: A Study in Scarlet

Author's Notes: I've always sort of thought that Watson praised Sherlock in the published journals that other people read, but sometimes -- sometimes he must have just stared at him and thought he was really fucking weird. This week, I just had a new roommate move in myself, and it's sort of fun and scary to sort of learn about each other and pick up on each other's talents and habits...so this story was born of that.

Holmes and my dog were my companions those first days. One of them chewed the corner of my Gladstone, the other amused himself with insect flight patterns. I'll leave it to you to 'deduce' which did what.

But only when the rat-faced Inspector started frequenting our flat, did I realise continued occupancy to recover my strength... might cost my sanity.
