Wisteria Lodge/Gen

Author: [livejournal.com profile] okapi1895

Canon Story: Wisteria Lodge

Rating: G

Author’s Note: Inspired by this photo of a porcelain tea cup that has a built-in ledge to protect a gentleman’s moustache from staining.

“… once again the grotesque has deepened into the criminal, Watson.”

Mrs. Hudson laid the tray between us. “How right you are, sir. It’s criminal how the doctor abuses his poor moustache.” She turned and handed me my tea. “A new cup for you, sir.”

Holmes glanced across the table and smiled. “As ingenious a solution as ever I conceived.”

Considering how elaborately some Victorian men groomed and styled their moustaches, it makes sense that they'd want to protect something that costs a bit of upkeep - the same reason women with an elaborate hairdo would want an umbrella to protect their hair from the rain.
