“So why did you leave the rooms in Montague Street?” asked Watson.

He glanced cautiously at their singed curtains.

“Was it because of… ‘studying branches of science’?”

Holmes smiled.

“Actually it was due to piles of paper.”

“Of course,” said Watson, nodding.

“Oh, not mine,” said Holmes. “My fellow tenants handed in a petition saying it was me or them.”
