“I believe you used to play cricket with Percy,” said Miss Harrison as we strolled round the grounds.
I recalled stumps wielded on youthful shins and smiled weakly.
“Perhaps a friendly game with me?” she said.
It took two weeks to recover from my injuries. Miss Harrison turned out to be adept at what was later known as the googly.
Author's Notes: The googly was officially invented by Bernard Bosanquet in the mid-1890s. On another occasion, when asked if the googly was illegal, Bosanquet is said to have replied, "Oh no, only immoral." Thompson, A. A. (1967), via Wikipedia.

I do feel a little sorry for Watson here ^^" But he shouldn't have messed with Miss Harrison's future beloved...

My late father was a big cricket fan, so a lot of the terms have stuck with me. (Still don't really understand the rules though...)
