The Naval Treaty: Briarbrae Revisited

Canon Story: The Naval Treaty
Title: Briarbrae Revisited

“I believe you used to play cricket with Percy,” said Miss Harrison as we strolled round the grounds.

I recalled stumps wielded on youthful shins and smiled weakly.

“Perhaps a friendly game with me?” she said.

It took two weeks to recover from my injuries. Miss Harrison turned out to be adept at what was later known as the googly.

Author's Notes: The googly was officially invented by Bernard Bosanquet in the mid-1890s. On another occasion, when asked if the googly was illegal, Bosanquet is said to have replied, "Oh no, only immoral." Thompson, A. A. (1967), via Wikipedia.

*chuckles* Brilliant. Miss Harrison comes across as rather protective of her Percy, doesn't she? And capable, too. I can just imagine her having her subtle revenge for Watson's youthful mistreatment of Percy.

Great! Bravo, Miss Harrison. And thank you, scfrankles.

Bwahahaha!!! Watson's been hanging out with Holmes too much if he underestimated this woman of rare character so thoroughly. I wish I'd worn several hats today so I could doff them all to you for everything from payback for schoolyard bullying to use of obscure cricket terms. The Author's Notes made me snigger, as well. This is just delightful!
