"Hot boiled beans and butter; walk in and find your supper!" chanted everyone.

Holmes re-entered the room and began a determined search.

“Cold!” called Hopkins.

“Cold!” called Mrs. Hudson.

“Even colder!” laughed Watson.

Lestrade furrowed his brow. “When do we tell him we didn’t hide the thimble?” he whispered.

“Oh, he’s the genius,” grinned Watson. “Let him work it out.”

"Green peas" doesn't sound like a particularly appetising supper, I have to say ^^" No wonder Holmes preferred to go and investigate all the local stationers.

And I only found this game by accident myself, while Googling Victorian parlour games. It just fits so neatly ^^ I think my 60 takes place at Christmas - they've been enjoying playing silly games and grumpy Holmes says: "Finding the thimble? That's child's play!" And cheeky old Watson suggests Holmes try it then... ^_^

I have a 6 month old baby who is just starting solids and green peas is the only of the 1st foods that he objects to. You should see his face! Complete horror and disgust as only an infant can express. I expect Holmes to have the same internal reaction.

Oh, poor, poor kid ^^" And yes, I imagine Holmes feels the same way but has learnt to control his emotions ^_^

In the north of England we have something called "mushy peas" - generally served with fish and chips. It looks truly revolting. I've never been able to bring myself to try it. Recently I heard someone on the bus talking about mushy pea sandwiches. Nearly phoned the south to ask for political asylum ^__^

You have a most adroit wit, madam ^_^ Oh, I loved this - it made me laugh so much. Poor Holmes - subjected to "sleuth-baiting". But everyone has to get their own back from time to time ^^
