“I think the steak and kidney pie. What say you, Watson?”
“I say that you go directly from ‘miraculous recovery from melodramatic wasting disease’ to ‘death by grievous gastrointestinal assault.’ For goodness sake, Holmes, start with a consommé!”
“I shan’t. The claret and biscuits had a negligible effect. And you’re wrong.”
“About?”
“It being melodramatic. Melodramatic would’ve been going blind.”

Oh, very melodramatic, I agree, but the Thing that Some People Are Saying About BBC Sherlock is a common storyline from some of the soap operas (which are shows, I guess like East Enders? but on from like 1-4 in the afternoon) which I used to watch growing up and they were MELODRAMATIC! I mean cheeserifically bad, bad!

Yeah, he'll have to be doctor to Holmes's tummy troubles when the steak and kidney pie tries to make its way through a weakened gut.

Yeah, I mean, I don't know if that's what's going to happen, but if it does, I can't see how it will be as Clever as the show creators think they are.

Must admit I haven't seen the Sherlock trailers - not because I'm trying to avoid spoilers (I have picked up various things) but because all the run-up feels so oppressive. And I try and avoid the Sherlock fandom as much as possible - I enjoy a lot of the fanfiction but I find the actual fandom terrifying ^^"

Thank you. Yes, Watson basically urging Holmes to take it easy on his GI tract. I got steak and kidney pie from a Jeeves book. I didn't look it up but it sounds heavy.

Yeah, I remember your perspective on the fandom :) At this point, it's speculation, but if this is the plot of the second of the new episodes, it will be interesting to see (ha, ha!) how the show's creators keep it from teetering into camp.

Ha! So, you know what I'm talking about! I was raised, in part, by an evil grandmother who loved her 'stories,' specifically Days of Our Lives. And when I saw one tumblr analysis of one of the new S4 trailers, I had to admit the argument was a bit convincing, and I thought...really? In this day and age?! There is nothing new at all! Switched at birth! Demonic possession! All of it! I guess they already had their big wedding.

I've never seen a steak and kidney pie. But I didn't figure the kidney was kidney beans. It's the actual kidney, right? That's not going to put Holmes in the privy all night, no...!

Correct - beefsteak and beef kidney cooked in a pastry. Very filling for hungry people living on a cold island, but not so good for an invalid suffering from inanition.
