And while Watson's sitting up in the coffin and gasping for fresh unchloroformed air and the mourners scream and the vicar faints, the two villains slip away to that ship waiting to take them on a nice safe sea voyage...

Yes, of all the villains, these are the ones that ACD chose to let slip through. I mean, wow. Holding a woman captive for weeks and burying her alive? For money? They deserve the vitrol-throwing, too. Get 'em, Holmes!

Too bad Peters and Fraser decided to flee to Australia via ship. Things happen on long sea voyages, especially when you anger a man who has Poseidon on speed-dial.

A week later, Watson's still a bit weak from the chloroform but with a returned appetite, and reads the newspaper. "Oh dear..."
