Presbury’s injuries were alarming and serious. He needed a quality surgeon’s immediate assessment. That professional recommendation was rejected outright however to protect reputation and position, neither of which would be of much use to the man debilitated or dead. All my years of experience were in an instant overruled and the matter settled. As ever, only Holmes’ word is final.

Poor Watson, ignored again. Although to be fair, Presbury's family were the ones who said "no" to the surgeon first. :-/ I wonder what their reaction would have been if Holmes had seconded Watson's suggestion, rather than dismissing it?

Yes, exactly. I understand Holmes overruling Watson on some things, but this is a medical matter. His opinion should matter more.

Sure, Presbury's family said no first, but given what went on under their roof, I don't know that we need to give their opinions full weight. I wouldn't have expected Holmes to, at least.

Oh, a Watson with a little bitterness! We see so little of that, but he must have felt resentful sometimes. He's very human here, and that's wonderful. <3

Glad you liked the slightly bitter quality to it! I just found it ridiculous that a combat doctor would be overruled about a violent injury like this. I was mad for Watson, even if he wasn't for himself.
