A Moment of Doubt by [livejournal.com profile] mistyzeo
Canon Story: The Noble Bachelor
Rated G - no warnings.

I am chronically skeptical of Watson's marriage(s), but that's just my OTP talking. IDK.

From the text:
"You have been reading the papers diligently of late, have you not?"

"It looks like it," said I ruefully, pointing to a huge bundle in the corner. "I have had nothing else to do."

---

Nothing else to do? I thought, regarding Watson askance. Here he was, a mere twenty-nine days from matrimony, surrounded by every paper that had been delivered to us for the last week. He had no part in the plans of his own marriage, that much was clear. I secretly wondered at his interest in the whole affair.

Well, this clearly proves Watson's only been married that one time. Otherwise he'd be very happy not to be included in all the organising, card-writing, dress-searching, hustling bustling yelling soothing rushing ma~dness it all is. ;P

As a general rule, I find most men are fairly ambivalent about the wedding plans. Love hisietari's comment too!

Well written! Thanks!

Either not interested, or he's been shoved out of the way to leave the organising of the wedding to people who can do it better. Mary knows Holmes will keep him out of the way until he's needed!

Somehow I doubt the groom was much involved at all in those days. I was surprised there was no further mention of the other wedding in the offing, however, so definitely a good thought.

Yeah, I can't imagine a man in that era being too terribly caught up in wedding plans. Sounds devine to me. But his ability to sit, focus, and read indicates that he had no real nerves about the affair. Maybe he knew marriage wouldn't much affect his circumstance.

Yes, I think we're all wonder a bit about the real level of Watson's interest in marriage. I love you giving Holmes some serious skepticism about it too.
