Summary: Holmes sees many things.
Warnings: Neglible spoilers for SCAN.

Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.

SCAN - I See It

The door opened, and he was before me.

Impressions blazed across my mind like fireworks. He looked well. He had gained weight; several pounds. His hair and moustache neatly trimmed. His clothing was brushed, although his boots showed careless scraping.

He was loved, and happy in his newly-married life.

And yet visibly glad to see me. My Watson had returned.

Extended-play version (100 words):

I heard the tread on the stair, but I had imagined Watson’s step so many times that I discounted the evidence of my ears. Then the door opened, and he was before me.

Impressions blazed across my mind like fireworks. He looked well. He had gained weight; several pounds had filled out the sturdiness of his frame. His color was good, his hair and moustache neatly trimmed. His clothing was well-cared-for; pressed, tailored, brushed, although his boots showed careless scraping.

He was loved, and happy in his newly-married life.

And yet visibly glad to see me. My Watson had returned.

I like this very much. Inside your Holmes' head is always such a great place to be, especially when he's deducing, and even more so when he's deducing about his much-missed doctor. And as always, thanks for posting both versions. The sparer 60 is sharp and to the point and then you read the more lush 100 to get the fuller picture. Terrific.

User [livejournal.com profile] spacemutineer referenced to your post from 60 words for 60 cases, week 9: A Scandal in Bohemia (http://dispatch-box.livejournal.com/200932.html) saying: [...] by I See It [...]

So very sweet! I like how Holmes notes the ways in which marriage agrees with Watson, but also how pleased Watson is to see him again.

This is beautifully done - you put us right into his head, and the fireworks blazing is very evocative and immediately engaging.

It's very touching that Holmes is pleased when Watson is happy to see him.

A great piece, this.
