A/N: This is one of my favourite stories but it wasn't until I reread it this time round that I noticed it takes place two days AFTER Christmas


Lighting his pipe he curled into his armchair, tucking his stockinged feet beneath him. He threw the match into the open fire then wrapped the dressing gown around him for warmth. Once resettled he reached for the half drunk glass of whisky he had left on the side table and, with it, raised a toast to the empty chair opposite.

Yes, I only realised on re reading that Watson had passed on Christmas greetings 2 days after the event! A lonely Holmes-I wonder if he was invited to join the Watsons and declined?

At least he had a decent case to get to grips with shortly afterwards:-)

I always forget this too - I always think that BLUE takes place on Christmas eve/day. Blame Granada for that. Poor, lonely Holmes :(

Mmm, it stings, but it's the best kind of pain because it rings true. This is all too plausible for Holmes, given the situation and the timing. Great work!
