Hello, hello! Time once again to unveil our story of the week. Coming up for this Sunday and the week ahead, it's The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb. A man comes wakes Doctor Watson up missing his thumb and bearing a story that defies all belief. For only the second time ever, Watson gets to bring a case to Holmes for his unique attention.

Haven't joined us for 60 for 60 before? We'd love to have you jump in too! Everyone is welcome. You can learn more here (including the schedule), but the basics are easy: read the story, then write a 60 word ficlet inspired by it. That's it! It's fun, it's quick and you'll love reading both the wonderful classic canon and the terrific variety of fic we all come up with. Come have fun with us! See you Sunday!

NOTE: The abbreviation and tag for this story is ENGR

Author's Note:  Having written about pain and anger last week, I tried for humor this week--because it struck me when I watched Grenada as well.

Of course he was able to depend upon my instant loyalty and trust, and Inspector Lestrade has remained silent regarding his reaction to Holmes’ reappearance; but it is the fact that Holmes was able to induce Mrs. Hudson to crawl on her knees to implement his scheme that brings home his remarkable power to charm when the occasion warranted it.

Title:  Hiatus

Author’s note:  I figured I'd try my hand at some popular fanon about the Hiatus... partly inspired by a comparable scene in Nicholas Meyer's The Canary Trainer. I was also partly inspired by the question of honestly, how called for was all of this, really?

The tall man put a finger to his lips, and led the slim youth on his arm into the lodging-house across the Place de la Comedie.

“You see, Mrs. Norton,” Sherlock Holmes said quietly, looking down, “my deception is really quite necessary.”

“Indeed. Even though you did kill your nemesis, and his lieutenant learned of your escape within an hour?”
