"John! John, wake up!"

Mary's hands are cold when she shakes me awake for the third time this week.

"You saw him again."

She's right. And wrong.

I do see him every night. His dark figure, hurrying along the winding path, full of single-minded determination and purpose.

Mary thinks I dream of Holmes. If only that were true.

Author's note: If you are interested, a while ago I wrote a missing scene for the Granada adaptation of The Final Problem called Returning. There are a few differences between Granada and canon, keep in mind. If you haven't seen the Granada version, I highly recommend it. The scene with Holmes and Moriarty at Baker Street is delicious. Jeremy Brett is spectacular (and beautiful).

I would have wished to describe the Reichenbach Falls as magnificent and perhaps spoken at length of the power of nature and their dark beauty.  Instead, all they mean to me are the death of my dearest friend.  At least the nights before he died will remain in my memory as some of the most glorious that we ever spent.

Warnings: none

I do not know how long I stood there, staring down into Hell. Minutes, hours? Long enough to become soaked through from the constant spray, for my cries to hoarsen to ragged whispers. An eternity.

Part of me is there still; the best part, perhaps.

My dear Watson, he called me.

Truer words were never spoken: I was, indeed, his.

Still haven't found time to sort out the two I missed while on holiday, but I will. Wrote this around hanging out with fangirls and going to Greenwich.

The note was clearly a ruse, but as I looked up to tell Watson that our most deadly challenge was close, I saw him absently turning his wedding ring while waiting for my verdict. The words died in my mouth. He was tied to his wife, not me, and it was my challenge, not his.

“You should go,” I said.

Terminus

He has hounded me, threatened me, and attempted my utter destruction. His actions have placed my loyal friends in the gravest of dangers. He is the antithesis of all I hold most dear in this world.

But no more. No longer will I suffer from his darts. Here, by this maelstrom of natural power, it ends.

Holmes, you die today.
