It's canon discussion time, everybody! What did you think about The Sign of the Four, Chapters 1-6? As always, I've written up a few of my own random thoughts and questions, which are behind the jump. Add your own in the comments!

The Granada TV adaptation we'll be talking about next week when we finish up with SIGN.

"So was Sophy Kratides in the plot from the start?" Mycroft asked when I told him the Buda-Pesth news.

"No. Her shock at her brother's captivity was surely genuine."

"But her change from victim to fury–"

"Predictable. She had imagined Latimer's desire was for herself alone; his obsession with her fortune was an insult that had to be avenged."

Character(s): Sherlock Holmes, John Watson
Summary: Holmes forgets to heed his own words.
Warnings: Mild spoilers for the first chapter of SIGN.
Word Count: 60.
Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories. I did a full set of twelve 60s (one for each chapter) the last time we did SIGN, so this time, I kept it short and simple.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.

SIGN, Part 1: Accidental Damage

I was irked by Watson’s lecture. But even nettled, I knew that he meant well.

I have no such excuse for my callous, blunt analysis of Watson’s watch. I did not mean ill, but neither did I mean well. I simply recited the facts as they appeared to me. Too late, I remembered that some facts ought to be suppressed.

Author's Notes: Down with a cold and still holiday-depressed, I apologise in advance for lame language and stupid sinister.

It would not be simple, balancing a significant disturbance in Holmes the Younger’s work while gathering sufficient information about his doings. Several of Mercy’s best agents had failed at the task already. Maybe it was time to change course, from direct attack to sublime infiltration. She pulled out a sheet of her mint-scented letter paper.
‘My dearest Mary,’ she wrote.

Those three people look different from the majority who are milling about, chatting and happy.  One looks nervous, as if this fog has got to him; and the young lady likewise, her eyes darting around as though she is looking for something or someone.  The third seems full of energy; one might think he expects a great adventure to begin.
