CROO – One Little Point
The case had exceptional features: the argument between the Barclays, the crippled man, the mysterious predator. I knew I was close to a solution, and yet instead of exhilaration, I felt uneasy in my mind. I was missing something.

Action would have to wait for the morrow, but relief could be had now. I directed the cabman to Watson’s address.

A/N: A few months earlier…

“So that’s the last of it.”

“Yes -“

“If you’re planning some over-emotional farewell, Watson, there really is no need, I assure you. Why it’s less than a week till we shall see each other again at your wedding, I’m certain I can survive till then.”

“Holmes, just… if you ever want to visit… I’ve a room just for you.”

There are very few I say this about, yet I like this man.  He seems to understand.  And he doesn’t sneer or jeer at the master.  His friend has the air of someone who has seen more of the world than many and is much slower to judge than they.  I wonder if they’d have let me catch the canary.
