Sorry for being so behind on everything. ^^;

Author's Notes: Holmes writing a monogram about 160 ciphers had me wondering.

The end of August brought a letter from Miss Moriarty:

“Dear Holmes,
attached is a paper I am supposed to decrypt for my mentor. Cannot fathom single word. Please help.”

The reply read as such:

“Dear Miss Moriarty,
it is but his housekeeper’s shopping list. I am afraid they are short of milk.
Please feel free to send more amusements.”

Author's Notes: Barker's "irregular" methods required some explaining.

Jane smiled to herself when she put down Watson’s manuscript of their latest adventure. Holmes had not mentioned a lot about Barker, for obvious reasons. She had come to know the detective back when he had still been one of London’s most talented burglars, though shy of violence and finally redeemed. Some darkness could be of use to nourish light.

Author's Notes: This one pretty much wrote itself.

Facing her final examinations in mere months, Miss Jane Moriarty had decided to spend an extended winter vacation in London. As was her habit, she would pay a visit at 221B’s.
“Milverton was always a splinter in Mercy’s eye. I wonder how he could survive her.”
Holmes glared.
“Have you –“
“I did no more assistance than you’d commit burglary.”

Am so incredible behind but I'm determined to catch up. The plan is to post three today (yay! Achieved!), three on Wednesday and three on Friday so by Sunday I'll be all caught up. So wish me luck and please encourage me to stop mucking about and get reading!

A/N: A sort of sequel to my Greek Interpreter story based on the description of Mycroft One forgot the gross body and remembered only the dominant mind.

Raising his eyebrows, Holmes looked over at Watson who sighed at the expression.

“What now, Holmes. What have I possibly written to upset you?”

Holmes read the quote aloud.

“Yes, well, I wanted to make up for my last description of him.”

“Surely it would have been easier to have described him as an Adonis in the first place.”

“Good Lord!” The paper fell from his grasp. “Cecilia! Have you seen this?”

“What is it?” she asked, coming running.

“In the Strand, here. This line.”

She scanned the proffered magazine then paled and fell back as her eyes hit the line in question.

“But how? We were so careful.”

“That damned cormorant,” he said. “I knew it would squawk.”

“But, Daddy, I did it for you. You said, remember? Four months ago you said you thought you had made a mistake. I knew you had when you married but you realised four months ago. So I wanted to help you, Daddy. Help you fix it. I just wanted you to be happy again, like we were before she came.”

Canon Story: Charles Augustus Milverton
Title: Assumptions
Author: [livejournal.com profile] spacemutineer
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note:Watson, in the instant the detective proposes it, imagines every possible way Holmes' lone burglary of Milverton's house could end: the detection, the capture, the honoured career ending in irreparable failure and disgrace, my friend himself lying at the mercy of the odious Milverton.

He was waiting for a click, but not that one.

"Don't move, Mr. Holmes."

Holmes pulled his hands off the safe's dial and rolled to his back to face Milverton. If he was going to be shot, at least it wouldn't be a surprise.

"I thought I told you to be still."

"I thought you were sleeping. Incorrect assumptions abound."
