For me, fishing was more than an enjoyable past-time, it provided respite when city living became too much. Holmes, however, loathed fishing as if fresh air and cicada-song were torture to his Bohemian soul, and yet still he indulged me. That he retained our gear from those early days was testament to what a great friend I had in him.

Her hair flows behind her like windswept wheat as she races down the sunset with Shoscombe Prince. He steps lively, breaking across the field into the hills. Prince is wild, Beatrice free. Together, they escape.

The fantasy alone is enough to provoke a coughing fit. When it passes, the horse cocks his head. Another sugar cube is all they share.
