Author's Notes: This drabble takes place about twenty years after the events recounted in "The Yellow Face" (set in 1888). Which still makes it historically inaccurate: the first female police officer was admitted to the Met in 1919, the first black female officer no earlier than 1969.


"Miss Munro," Holmes said as we passed the woman, two pips shining on the shoulder blades of her Metropolitan police uniform.

She stood tall, with the noble elegance of her race.

I gasped in recognition. "July," I exclaimed before I could stop myself.

She forgave me with a smile, returned our greeting – "Mr Holmes, Mr Watson" – and went her way.

Holmes arrives at Watson's consulting room, his life in danger from the agents of ex-Professor Moriarty. Moriarty will hopefully be arrested in a few days time and so Holmes asks Watson to accompany him to the Continent, to get out of the way until the police can act. But can you outrun the Napoleon of crime - even if you're Mr. Sherlock Holmes?

(Moans quietly.) Well, we all know what happens in this one. Deep breaths - we'll get through it together.
