This Sunday, 18th December, we'll be posting our 60 word ficlets for The Final Problem.

Holmes arrives at Watson's home, 'his nerves... at their highest tension', and asks Watson to accompany him on a trip to the Continent. In three days a complex operation will have been completed and all the many members of a criminal organisation will be arrested - including its head, the former Professor Moriarty. But until then Holmes is in great danger, and must try to put himself out of harm's way...

If you haven't tried 60 for 60 before, full information - including our schedule - can be found on our profile. But in essence: you read ACD's story and then you write a 60 word story inspired by it! You don't have to post a story every week - just join in whenever you feel like it.

Each Sunday we will also have our weekly discussion post, where we discuss a topic inspired by the canon story. And there’s Mrs. Hudson's Poetry Page too - any poems written about this week’s story can be left as a comment on her post. Mrs. Hudson informs me that the poetry form being revisited this week is the renga. (This is a form usually written by two or more poets together, but Mrs. Hudson suggests writing the verses from the POVs of different characters as a possible alternative.) And as always, her housemaid Rachel will be suggesting a poem for us to read, to give us added inspiration.

You can choose one activity, or have a go at everything. Or just come along and read the 60s! (And have a chat in the comments.) All options are absolutely fine.

Hope to see you on Sunday. But don’t worry if you can’t join us then - we stay open for posting and commenting all week!

🎄

The Sunday after that is of course Christmas Day, and we will be taking a break from reading the canon and posting 60s. However, in recognition of the holiday season, we will be doing something a little more lighthearted instead.

There will be no discussion post that week but Mrs. Hudson will remain with us: for one week only, the Poetry Page will become Mrs. Hudson’s Problem Page and Poetry Corner. All forms of Sherlock Holmes related poetry will still be welcome but Mrs. Hudson will also be answering letters regarding any personal problems. Love, work, household hints—Mrs. Hudson has seen and done it all, and is ready and willing to offer her advice. So feel free to leave a problem in the comments on her post from Christmas Day onwards. And perhaps some of the people who have been involved in Mr. Holmes's cases over the years might like to write in too! [Mod winks repeatedly.]
