Those three people look different from the majority who are milling about, chatting and happy.  One looks nervous, as if this fog has got to him; and the young lady likewise, her eyes darting around as though she is looking for something or someone.  The third seems full of energy; one might think he expects a great adventure to begin.

I think they stood out because they were so very different from the rest of the theatre going public. The moth is very sensitive to auras.

One of the parts of the story I really liked was ACD's description of being in the fog and knowing that this is a first hand description rather than something that has been imagined.

Did you use "milling about" deliberately? My family always called moths that get in the house "millers" as they just wander around the room. :)

I didn't use "milling about" with reference to "millers", which I've not come across before, but I did think that there was a resemblance between the theatre goers moving around fairly aimlessly and the way moths seem to fly around.
