SIGN, Part 1: Accidental Damage

I was irked by Watson’s lecture. But even nettled, I knew that he meant well.

I have no such excuse for my callous, blunt analysis of Watson’s watch. I did not mean ill, but neither did I mean well. I simply recited the facts as they appeared to me. Too late, I remembered that some facts ought to be suppressed.

Ohh, nice work using the text there. Now that somewhat inexplicable line makes so much more sense, knowing more of what he meant. Impressive!

Well, to be honest, I doubt that's what ACD meant Holmes to mean when he gave him that line. But it is one of those memorable things that really sticks out oddly when you think about Holmes as a character overall, and so...
