Canon Story: The Naval Treaty

A/N: I want to apologise for how shoddy my story for The Stockbroker’s Clerk was. That story and I did not get along. However The Naval Treaty and I spent a pleasant evening on the train getting to know each other and came out the other side with one 60 and one drabble so hopefully this will better!

“Watson, I have never heard you speak about anyone so warmly as you do Holmes,” Phelps said as I showed him the spare bedroom. “It has been many years since we saw each other and it is possible you have changed but I think it likely,” he gave me with a knowing look, “that in one particular you have not.”

~

That night I tossed and turned, unable to find peace but it wasn’t just the case that was on my mind. I couldn’t get comfortable; the bed was too large, too empty and far too cold. I wondered how Mary was sleeping in our bed at home. Pondered on where Holmes was staying for the night or if he was even resting at all. But most of all I was thanking my stars that Phelps had not asked why Holmes had been so firm that I be the one to sleep in his bed, rather than in my old one.

Do not apologize for anything! Your entries are always excellent and a pleasure to read. I'm sorry I've been reticent with commenting and writing myself - lots going on irl including preparations for a big trip, and to be honest, I'm scatterbrained on a good day. :) Anyway, I hope you haven't taken slow commenting as a reflection on the quality of your writing, because it surely has nothing to do with it!

I love all the implications in this, with Watson in Holmes' bed and Watson thinking about Mary and his missing companion. There's quite a bit going on, referenced obliquely, which I always think is so cool.

Heh. I like Percy's knowing look. Watson must have been so conflicted during the period of his marriage.

I thought your Stockbroker's Clerk story was fine!
