Watching Holmes questing about the downs for clues as to the whereabouts of the missing Silver Blaze, I could not help but think that he was every bit a Thoroughbred himself; all nervous, quivering energy poised to spring into action at a moment's notice.

I smiled then, picturing myself as his stolid lead pony, always there to keep him grounded.
