Canon Story: The Abbey Grange
Title: The Habit of Judgement
Author: Mary Sutherland
Rating: PG

Your fatal habit of looking at everything from the point of view of a story instead of as a scientific exercise has ruined what might have been an instructive and even classical series of demonstrations.

I complain justly of Watson's slurring of details: his account of the Brackenstall case omitted my detailed explanation to him of the significance of the Midshipman's Hitch in the cord. Yet his love of stories serves him well as a juror. Give him a fair account of events and motives and there is not a better judge of character alive.

I can't tell you how much I adore Holmes being angry that Watson left out the specific knot used in the case. That is perfection.

There certainly isn't. This is one of my favorite of your 60s ever, and that is saying something indeed. You've packed so many facets of wonderful characterization in such a small word count.

What a perfect pair of Holmesian observation: the nautical knot, and the storyteller's strengths. Brava!
