I have as much chance of being taken for the monkey on the saucer as Dr Watson has of passing himself off as an expert in Chinese pottery.  And I don’t see what is so important about that particular saucer anyway; Mrs Hudson has five similar ones that she keeps for Sundays.  There were six, until Mr Holmes broke one.

As far as the spider is concerned, saucers are for putting tea cups on, not displaying in glass cabinets.

As far as the spider was concerned the pattern looked similar which was all that mattered. And fortunately the spider didn't have to convince the baron of its knowledge.
