I have read your draft. Thank you for your discretion regarding my situation. (Curious you associate “wife” with “gaol”.) Though I fear acquaintances will probably recall that dearest Mary died in 1892.

Incidentally, my lawyer believes I will be declared innocent but in future you can do any “necessary” burglaries your CENSORED self.

This is a FANTASTIC explanation. Watson has every right to be pissed off! Gaol? Oh, no! Holmes is going to have so much to do to make it up to him when he gets back...

In my defence, ACD did bump off his wife and kill off his best friend temporarily. I think Watson can cope with a couple of months in chokey ^^

This explanation suggested itself to me partly because of Colonel Emsworth referring to Holmes and James Dodd as burglars. Holmes and Watson do seem to act outside the law rather a lot and they always apparently get away with it ^_^ And would a new marriage really have kept Watson away from cases? He always seemed to be abandoning poor Mary ^^
