I'm guessing whatever was in the youthful letter would seem terribly innocent to us. I remember that the New Annotated said that a letter merely arranging a time and place to meet could be considered compromising. The social rules were so strict - maybe the letter merely made reference to being alone with the man the letter was sent to. Or made reference to innocent longings. Or maybe it was a letter sent to a married man. Her husband may have interpreted the letter as proof his wife hadn't been a virgin when they married.
