Canon Story: The Sign of the Four, ch. 1-6
Title: First Sight
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vaysh
Rating: G
Words: 60
Pairing: John Watson/Mary Morstan

Her choice of dress had been the right one. Sherlock Holmes did not strike Mary as being partial to fancy costumes.

The other gentleman, though... he instantly felt like a brother, a good friend. But even more, she realised, John Watson looked for the best in what he admired. And she couldn't help wanting to be the best for him.

Thank you for sharing this excellent Mary pov. Especially her very perceptive view of John Watson. Bravo, Mary and vaysh!

I love the way you have Mary being so perceptive of not just Watson but what Holmes would like as well - makes her seem much more a master (mistress) of her own fate than I got even from the canon story, which I like.

I like the combination of careful planning and her instant attraction to Watson.

I love that you've given us Mary's POV of that initial meeting - and what I love especially is her view of Watson. You're pointed up the difference between Holmes and Watson: Holmes remains detached and has to consider the worst about people; Watson looks for the best.
