Author's Notes: A prequel of sorts to "The Noble Bachelor". Dismisses the timelines that have "Silver Blaze" set in 1888 or 1889 whereas the "The Noble Bachelor" is firmly set in 1887.
The Duke of Balmore thought the disappearance of Silver Blaze a fortunate event.
Iris was healthy, well-trained; the jockey a boy of much experience, small height and bones weighing close to nothing.
The Duke's money was on Iris. The Wessex Cup was the answer to his troubles. If Silver Blaze remained lost, his rare Constable paintings could still be saved.
