Author's Notes: “I have no more notion than you how long it is to last," Holmes answered with some asperity. "If criminals would always schedule their movements like railway trains, it would certainly be more convenient for all of us.”

Travelling back from Birlstone, our first train was late by an hour and the second by two. We finally arrived back in London past midnight, Holmes somewhat annoyed.

In an attempt to lighten the situation, I said: “You know, Holmes—criminals do schedule their movements like railway trains!”

And that is why I am spending the night at my club.

And I wasn't even on that train ;)

Possibly not the most tactful thing you could have said, Watson.

Dear me, poor old Watson! He does at least try...

I did laugh aloud at this. Thank you!

I had to laugh out loud, as well, first at the final line, and then because of the clever title. :) I love the Holmes-Watson dialogue in the first part of the novel, there are some true pearls there. It is wonderful to see Watson get back at Holmes. Obviously, Holmes would shown not nearly as much patience as the good doctor does. :)

He does indeed.

My pleasure. I have been lurking for a while, but I have so far not learnt how to be concise in my writing. If I do ever manage it, I shall join in.

Honesty is not always the best policy, Watson:-)

But you say so much in so few words! Sometimes less is most certainly more.

My tales tend to consist of upwards of 300 words and I would say that my average is about 1,500 words per one-shot or chapter. Once I start something I find it a little bit difficult to stop, I fear.

I really love this one. The last line is brilliant. ^^

I completelly understand Holmes' ire. Something similar happened to me twice already.
