Von Bork still struggling behind them, the friends climbed into the little Ford. Watson adjusted the controls and then got out again.

“Have you forgotten something?” asked Holmes, puzzled.

Watson smiled. “How did you contrive to pass yourself off as a motor expert?” He waved the starting handle. “As we’re now departing, it’s time for me to wind things up.”

*lol* I will readily admit that with all the mention of the big Benz that von Herling drives, I had plain forgotten that cars back then need to be started with a handle. :) Holmes is, as always, ahead of his time.

It just popped into my head that the cars needed starting handles then ^^ Actually, when I was a child (in the '70s or early '80s) we had a van that could be started with a handle (as well as the contemporary way ^_^). It's not that long ago they disappeared.

My childhood was in the 60's, but I've never seen a car that could be started with a handle. *pouts*
