Canon Story: The Three Gables
Title: The Real Steve Dixie
Author: thesmallhobbit
Rating: G

The only resemblance Dick Stephens bore to the character in my tale was the colour of his skin.  Stephens was an unpleasant and dangerous man, whose intelligence meant Holmes had been unable to prove his involvement in certain particularly violent cases.  Holmes had requested my inclusion of Stephens’ alter ego as a warning that we were aware of his actions.

I like it ^^ Watson and Holmes deliberating inventing a character that is the opposite of the real man, apart from him being involved in killings. It's sort of a nod to Langdale Pike and his social scandal articles, isn't it? Having to be careful about what you say - you can't directly accuse people. Stephens is hardly going to complain that the cowardly and weak "Dixie" is based on himself - it implies that he can recognise himself in the portrayal. (And I like the way you've reversed the names ^^)

What a great theory. It probably enraged Dick Stephens, but that might have been the point.

Actually, Watson probably found later Stephens had never even heard of the story.

I love the idea that Holmes asked and Watson delivered. So in keeping with Victorian newspapery as well.

Ha, this is pretty clever. ^^
If they cannot bring him to justice, they at least can make him nervous and aware ... Why, it's practically public blackmailing the villain to behave! ^^
