It was unfortunate Mrs Hudson was sure she had glimpsed a rat in Holmes’ room.  He tried to convince her she was mistaken, but to no avail.  I am not entirely certain why it became my responsibility to smuggle out the ferret - borrowed for a case - but luckily I was successful, making my escape when she went for her broom.

LOL. Poor Mrs. Hudson. I am not sure she would have considered a ferret a desirable tenant.

Poor Mrs Hudson probably did worry a bit about rodents moving into all the mess. She might have been very glad of a ferret.

I am not entirely certain why it became my responsibility to smuggle out the ferret... Well, as we know, ferret features tend to bring out affectionate feelings in Watson :P

It's fortunate that Mrs. Hudson only caught a glimpse of the ferret. If she was unfamiliar with the creatures she might think it was some sort of mutant rat, which would surely be even more terrifying!

Oh, I like this explanation, it made me chuckle.

She maintained it was hard enough with her two-footed lodgers, without having any with four feet. And yes, it was safely returned from whence it had been borrowed.

It was fortunate that the Inspector and I made it down the stairs without giggling, because if that had happened Mrs Hudson would most certainly have smelled a rat.
