I think Roylott is a man who can let his temper take over, which given his strength is always a danger, but at the same time, if he wants to he can plan and execute a scheme. He has the control he just doesn't always choose to use it when considering those he thinks beneath him (the butler and the blacksmith). He views himself as a superior human being.
