Mary thought the ‘David’ puzzle extremely clever. “I’m almost tempted to drop some similar allusion into our conversations as a badge of mystery!”

“Oh, marvelous! But what name would serve?”

“It is the second letter of James that tells us ‘faith without works is dead.’ If ever you hesitate to take another case with Mr. Holmes, I shall remind you.”

And maybe it doubly fits, because James was John's brother in the Bible, and their nickname was supposedly "the sons of thunder." A good name for when Watson goes adventuring!

I do like the thought that he and Mary had in-jokes about the cases, and picked this little momento from their first one as a married couple :)
