Holmes liked people to think that he sent me to Lausanne to search for the Lady Frances Carfax, but in truth he was jealous of the companion who had joined me at the Turkish baths. He could not bear to think that anyone but he should have opportunity to regard my body. Next time I shall travel much more carefully.
