Story: The Dying Detective

A.N.: This article makes the case that Smith used Berkholderia pseudomallei, also known as the Vietnamese time-bomb for its potential delayed effects, as his infectious weapon.

“Smith was wise in his selection. If his victim had escaped death initially, he might have succumbed later to a relapse or a rupture of an abscess.”
Holmes frowned at the plate of cold gruel on the table. He held up the iron-singed sleeve of his dressing gown.
“Much like Mrs. Hudson’s wrath at being conscripted involuntarily into my drama.”

And that's a wonderful last line to your story ^__^ Poor Holmes (not that he doesn't deserve it) - I feel Mrs. Hudson probably has a great deal more planned...

Yeah, the first thing I wanted to know was what Smith used. I was happy that it had already been determined. Sending a bioweapon through the post still resonates today; years ago someone sent ricin through the mail to the U.S. Congress.

Yeah, and you can argue that Watson is a man of the world and a man, so he'll probably bounce back quickly (Reichenbach didn't seem to faze him for long), but Mrs. Hudson...not so much, I think.

What I totally love about this story is that she would most likely have been sending the laundry out, so would have had to put a lot of effort into this little 'accident.'
