His laugh echoed mine. “Surely some extract of a beast is involved. Bear, perhaps? Or wolf?”

“Wolf only in this respect, dearest.” I began covering him with port-flavoured kisses. “Wolves mate for life.”

Your warning and your summary made me smile even before I got to the story ^_^ Trust you to dig deeper and see what "time for a cup of tea" actually means :P

A really lovely and clever spin on the "elixir of youth" aspect of the story. And rather moving. I love how close Holmes and Watson's relationship is - the effect of being together for a long time and sharing a past. Something perhaps that poor Presbury had lost after his first wife died, and something that could never quite be replaced even if Miss Morphy had wanted to marry him.

I can only imagine that being immersed in a case involving passion, romance and a search for virility enhancements might be stimulating enough for both men that they'd, er, need to head back to the inn and remind themselves why they don't need such quackery.
