Two more that I seem to have missed--but now I think that I am only missing Hound and I'm not quite up to re-reading that at the moment.

For all of his dismissal of women and his admission of being beaten by only one, on many an occasion Holmes would encounter women whose fortitude he admired. Although he did not meet her in person, he long maintained that Miss Sophy Kratides effected a revenge worthy of the greatest heroes in the ancient plays and poems of her country.

In later years, when the theories of Sigmund Freud came to dominate the field of alienism I, rather uncharitably, wondered if Miss Sutherland had recognized more of her stepfather than any of us thought, even if unconsciously, for it seemed well-nigh impossible for me to believe that even with his precautions and her poor eye-sight she should be so deluded.
