“And so you see, father,” said Lord Robert. “She may not be of our station but the dowry will be… sufficient.”

His father nodded. “I suppose I must grant my consent then.”


The Duke sighed as Robert left. The marriage was necessary but still, he could not wholeheartedly approve…

That poor girl. Stuck with his pompous fool of a son.

Thanks for givng us this enjoyable glimpse of an off-screen character. I find him believable and sympathetic, and I'm sure he and Hatty would have got on well.

I do wonder if all the publicity in the papers had a positive result - attracted a bride who was happy to do a straightforward exchange of her cash for his social position. Someone a little less sweet and noble than Mrs. Moulton ^^

I like to think that some of Lord Robert's family were sympathetic towards Hatty - they didn't just see her as a source of money. She is a very charming young woman.
