Canon Story:  The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton

It infuriates me when he tries to shut me out. I, too, have reason to abhor all men like Milverton.  There are past indiscretions and current persuasions that would ruin me should they be revealed.  No, Sherlock Holmes holds no monopoly on fear and empathy for those poor victimized souls.  There, but for the Grace of God, go I.

We all have secrets, Doctor, oh yes. I like how you approach it from the other side; most fic on CHAS assumes it's Holmes with the blackmailable secrets.

The hints of Watson's past (and present...) are tantalizing. Maybe Holmes is not the only one shutting the other out. Mmm, great stuff!

Oooh, well done! I love how you hint at Watson's secrets here, and paint such a vivid picture of his state of mind in sixty short words. :-)

I love that too about the 60s! We really lucked into something very nifty here, I think. I find it fascinating every week to see all the different angles people find in the same text. And as you said, with only 60 words, you have to be creative in how you express the ideas and feelings. As a reader, you often need to read between the lines. I love it, and I am so excited that we have such a clever group of great writers for it, including you, my dear! :)

Dittoing other's comments. Nice summation both of Watson's foibles (he was a gambler, and his brother an alcoholic) and then his empathy.
