“Esme’s living with us now. We are in London doing a bit of shopping.”
“We’re going to get a piano and a bicycle just for me!”

Children in the canon do seem to be just plot points that fade away, don't they? ^_^ (They're probably all off playing with Watson's bull pup.)

I love Mrs. Morton's generosity - not just regarding using her new fortune to buy the bicycle and the piano, but being generous enough to offer her home and time to Esme.

Clever connection to make with Watson's bull pup (whom I love). Yeah, Watson says that Carruthers gets 'a few months' as if it's no big deal (less than the 7 and 10 years that the other get) but to a girl that's depending on her one surviving parent, a few months in prison is a very big deal. I like to think the girl was taken care of, perhaps Violet would be kind enough to be in the instrument of that care.

Yeah, Violet liked her enough to keep teaching her (of course the 100 pounds didn't hurt) but a father to a motherless child who is doing time--even for 'a few months'--is pretty tragic. I'd like to think she had a soft landing.
