I have long wondered how the extensive arrangements of full mourning were accomplished, and likewise marveled at the logistical/monetary burden of it all. Now I know, thank you.

Also, that Dirty Old London article about the switchover from urban to suburban cemeteries... I had gotten an inkling from the pipe-smoking linkspam (and the archaeological-medical study within) of how grisly the urban cemeteries were, but... yowza. And the switchover from urban to suburban was a project, to say the least.

:: Dr. Adolf Gutsmuth was buried alive several times to demonstrate a safety coffin of his own design, and in 1822 he stayed underground for several hours and even ate a meal of soup, bratwurst, marzipan, sauerkraut, spƤtzle, beer, and for dessert, prinzregententorte, delivered to him through the coffin's feeding tube. ::

Well, then.

Also, we obviously need a zombie story set in this era with all the zombies politely ringing their bells to be let out of their coffins now, please.
