Canon Story: The Boscombe Valley Mystery

Author’s Notes: Sherlock Holmes was pacing up and down the platform and their meeting interested me. I’m fairly that someone has written about this before, but I haven’t so here I go.


“Focus. Who uses of weather and pastoral views as a reason? He hasn’t cared about that in the past. Focus on the trifles of this case, not on the possibility he will-“

Holmes spots Watson watching him from across the platform and his agitation melts away. Quickly turning to cough, he hides his relief before going to meet his friend.

Who uses of weather and pastoral views as a reason? Yes, Holmes' telegram is rather poignant. It's as though he doesn't quite believe that he and the case will be enough to entice Watson.

There's also the fact he waits until Watson arrives before buying the train tickets - even after all these years he doesn't automatically assume Watson will be coming.

Compared to his other messages like Come at once if convienient—if inconvenient come all the same., the air and scenery perfect part just didn’t seem odd and unnecessary. Granted, the later message was written at a later date. Somewhere (I forgot which one…) Holmes doesn’t seem to care about scenery. Thus, that part stuck out to me as well.

he doesn't quite believe that he and the case will be enough to entice Watson. Yes, agreed with this and thanks for further elucidating what was bothering me about that telegram. (not sarcastic here, actually thankful)

When I was thinking about this scene, I was imagining Holmes pacing well before Watson would even be able to arrive and smoking through a few cigarettes trying to calm his anxiousness. His stream of consciousness was a mixture of thinking about the case, annoyed at himself with whatever fault he could think of in the telegram message, and hoping Watson would show up.

train tickets I didn’t connect that implication before. Neat, more to think about. :)
