Author's Notes: Inspired by the fact that The Red-Headed League takes place chronologically only two cases before The Final Problem.

His book lies on the table by the door, ready as he passes in the morning. Patients wait but this appointment always comes first.

Once more, Holmes bites his lip, but even his iron will breaks. They laugh together like schoolboys.

Watson chuckles as he always does at the memory, closing the cover bearing their names for one more day.

"Did I finally manage to convince you?"

"Convince me of what?"

"That the world is far stranger than the limited human mind can imagine. If ever you required proof, I believe we've just seen it."

"Ah, no! It was an extraordinarily bizarre event in our world, true, but it came from John Clay's clever brain. Imagination wins again."

I love your take on Watson's motivations or emotions when revisiting this story after Holmes is presumed dead! I took a more angsty tack, but your image of Watson drawing strength from remembering and re-living such a happy moment by reading the story is wonderful and a bit hopeful.

In the second one, it's great how this is clearly an old and well-loved argument.

Aw, that was sweet! I like the idea that Watson remembers the good times they had during those three years. And also that they bicker back and forth like an old married couple. A fine couple of stories, there!

These are both such great interpretations! I love the idea of Watson starting every day with rereading REDH, drawing strength from the memories and laughter. As for the second - now I've got "Imagination" stuck in my head!

Lovely work as always!
