“Doyle's play made you look like a buffoon!” Holmes snapped. “Unforgiveable.”

Watson patted the hand tucked into his elbow. “It’s nothing, dear fellow. Perhaps Mr. Gillette’s offering will be better.”

I love that Holmes is more concerned about Watson's reputation than his own characterisation in the play - nobody comes out of this well ^___^ Oh, I don't know though - probably Billy was happy ^_^

Exactly. This was probably a fan-written production and Doyle said "What the hell, it'll mean a few more pounds for me to pursue spiritualism."
