"Roylott. Rucastle. Windibank. Blackguards abound who maltreat or kill women for their money." Holmes made a contemptuous gesture. "Bob Norbertson didn't even let her death stop him from feeding on his sister's corpse!"

Normally this is the kind of guy Holmes throws the book at - or chases with a riding crop out the door.

Holmes and Watson do both seem oddly impressed for once, regarding Sir Robert's background of 'honourable stock'. The man certainly didn't deserve that canon happy ending.

Sounds like Arthur was asleep at the wheel when he wrote this one. THis was in the 20s he was probably thinking "F**k it, these idiots will be happy if I write one about Holmes reading the damn dictionary," and scribbled this one off in 3 days to fund his Fairy expedition.
