One of Sherlock Holmes' most earnest adages is to look up. Many clues lurk in rafters overhead, higher than normal eyesight.

But here my own looking up merely saved us from a very long walk terminating in this selfsame spot. Holmes had been intent on the tracks we followed – whilst I'd looked up and seen tracks doubled back on themselves.

I love this moment. Watson spotting the tracks doubling back may just be a minor part of the investigation, but it feels like Holmes and Watson are truly a team.

Very much so - and one of the few times in Canon Holmes acknowledges that Watson was quicker on something than he himself.
