Think you will take my queen, do you?  Just remember that the game only ends when the king is dead and not before.  You will become as one of the pawns in my hands, completely expendable.  I do not think that you will find a better game player than I am, be that with chess pieces or with human lives.

Oh, nice! Too bad we didn't get to see Holmes playing some chess - I gather from my annotated story that he uses chess metaphors on occasion but there's no actual incidence of him playing chess in canon.

Thank you. I'm sure he would have been good at chess - maybe he just found any opponents to be too predictable!
