As Lestrade hurried out of the room bellowing for his constable, Holmes quickly bent, flung the drugget aside, and began searching the parquet floor for a secret compartment. As I watched him work, I couldn’t help but admire how he’d played the Scotland Yard Inspector like a human Stradivarius with Lestrade none the wiser that he’d given the game away.

Hehe, excellent. I love Watson reflecting on Lestrade getting played in all senses by the master at work. I'd feel sorry for Lestrade, but it all works out for him too. :)
